The Saddleback men's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 win over Mt. San Antonio College on Thursday at Citrus College. The Gauchos took advantage of a short lineup from the Mounties, winning five matches by default.
Saddleback knew heading into the match that they were going to pick up a win on Thursday as a result of Mt. San Antonio having a short bench, and the only thing in question was going to be the final score. Mt. San Antonio forfeited five matches as a result of only having four players, meaning the final score would come down to a handful of singles matches.
Saddleback made quick work of the Mounties, winning all four singles matches for a 9-0 sweep. Three of the matches were won without losing a game. Tyler Edwards defeated Shawn Ramirez 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2 singles. Lucas Fortt swept past Ethan Lumagbus 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles while Chris Torcaso did the same to Jesus Gomez at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0. The only match with any drama was on court one where Shayan Haddad Kaveh had to go to a tiebreaker in set two before winning 6-0, 7-6.
Saddleback is now 10-6 overall after the win with two matches remaining on the regular season schedule. The Gauchos will travel to Bakersfield College on Friday in a final non-conference match before facing Orange Coast College next Tuesday on the road. The win on Thursday marks the fifth straight season that Saddleback has won at least 10 matches during the course of the season.
