Women’s XC takes home academic hardware

The women's cross country team reached new heights in 2016, finishing fifth in the state and within an eyelash of its first-ever Orange Empire Conference title.  The Gauchos now have more bragging rights as they led the conference in academics.

Saddleback had its best finish in the history of the program on the outside courses, but now can claim the top spot in the conference in inside courses after posting a cumulative 3.36 GPA in the classroom.

"I'm really proud of everything this team has accomplished," head coach Matt Sherman said.  "They are the reason a coach gets into the business of coaching.  It's the most determined group of ladies I have ever coached and it will pay off for them in the end."

Saddleback finished fifth in the state in November at the state finals in Fresno and was just an eyelash out of fourth.  The previous high finish for Saddleback in women's cross country was 10th in 2015.

The women's cross country team has a number of athletes expected to sign letters of intent to four-year universities over the next couple of weeks.  Keep it posted to saddlebackgauchos.com for all the latest.
