The Saddleback women's water polo team picked up a conference win with a 15-9 win over Orange Coast College on Wednesday in Costa Mesa. The Gauchos improved to 8-7 on the season in moving into fourth place.
Saddleback was in need of a win on Wednesday in order to stay in the hunt in the Orange Empire Conference. The Gauchos responded with a dominating victory in moving past Cypress College in the standings.
Saddleback had a 7-5 lead on Orange Coast at halftime as Maddie Choi scored a pair of goals in the first two quarters to get the Gauchos out front. Hylah Prussak would get into the action in the second half, scoring three goals of her own over the last 16 minutes as the Gauchos widened their lead down the stretch. Choi and Prussak would lead Saddleback with four goals apiece while Tori Higginson would add three goals of her own. Keleen Pelphrey would go the distance in goal for Saddleback, finishing with nine saves in 18 shots on goal.
Saddleback is now 8-7 overall and 1-2 in Orange Empire Conference play following the win. The Gauchos are a half-game ahead of Cypress College in the standings and will play the Chargers next Wednesday at the Saddleback Pool. Match time next Wednesday is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
