Gauchos up to #7 in state poll

The Saddleback women's volleyball team moved up to No. 7 in the latest state rankings produced by the California Community College Women's Volleyball Coaches Association on Monday.  It's believed to be the highest ranking in at least 19 seasons.

The last time Saddleback was ranked this high was during the 1998 season when the Gauchos finished 24-6 and lost in the state title match.  Saddleback is currently 10-5 overall and 9-2 against programs from California.  The lone losses in the Golden State were to No. 1 Irvine Valley College and No. 10 El Camino College.

During the course of the season, Saddleback has set the program record for consecutive sweeps in five-set matches (6) and now sits in a tie for third place in the Orange Empire Conference standings.  The Gauchos have beaten three programs ranked in the top-20, including No. 3 Grossmont College (3-0).

The Gauchos travel to Santiago Canyon on Wednesday for a match with the Hawks (3-8, 0-5).  Start time is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
