Gauchos grind out win against OCC

The Saddleback women's tennis team picked up a big win on Thursday with a 5-4 victory over Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa.  The win keeps the Gauchos in a tie for second place in conference play.

With Irvine Valley leading the conference standings, Saddleback and Orange Coast faced off in a tight battle on Thursday with the winner remaining in a tie for second place.  The match was every bit as tight as the standings, with the Gauchos holding on for a narrow 5-4 win.

Key performances were turned in by Dominique Willette and Kristina Parks, who ended up closing out the team match when they teamed at No. 2 doubles for an 8-3 win.  Both had won singles matches earlier in the day as Willette won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and Parks won a marathon, three-set match at No. 4 singles (6-4, 4-6, 6-3).

Saddleback also had wins at No. 3 singles with Joanna Colin making quick work with a 6-1, 6-2 win and Maria Battel cruising to a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles.
