The women's tennis team got off to a quick start to the 2017 season with a 9-0 win over Cuyamaca College on Wednesday at the Saddleback Courts. The Gauchos lost just nine total games in singles play in the win.
Cuyamaca showed up with just five players for the match, so the Coyotes knew it was going to be tough sledding from the beginning. The Gauchos made them pay, dominating play from start to finish.
Saddleback started with a couple of wins in doubles play when Joanna Colin and Jacklyn Melkonian teamed for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles and Dominique Willette and Kristina Parks an 8-2 win at No. 2. The No. 3 match was forfeited by Cuyamaca due to a lack of players, giving Saddleback a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
The Gauchos then went to work in singles play, dominating all five matches while picking up a forfeit win at No. 6. Willette was the first to score a win at No. 2 singles, making quick work with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Leonor Garcia. Parks then closed out the team match with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Johanna Marino.
Saddleback will take to the courts again on Friday when they travel to Palomar College. The Gauchos and Comets are set to start at 2:00 PM.
