Men’s XC has solid finish in Walnut

The men's cross country team had its best finish of the season on Friday with a fifth place finish at Mt. San Antonio College.  The Gauchos had three top-40 finishers, led by freshman Ronen Skarsten.

Saddleback set out on Friday to take on a tough field of competition, coming off a handful of mediocre performances in Irvine, Huntington Beach and San Luis Obispo.  The Gauchos found their stride, finishing fifth against a field that featured some of the top programs in the state.

Skarsten was the top performer, finishing 16th overall out of 154 athletes in the field.  Skarsten completed the 4-mile course in 21:45.4, which was just 13 seconds from a top-10 performance and 56 seconds off the pace set by Hartnell's Edgar Bonilla.

Following Skarsten to the finish line for the Gauchos was Bryce Callender in 29th place (22:13.8) and Jacob King in 36th (22:25.9).

Three other Orange Empire Conference programs were in the field with Santiago Canyon College finishing 13th, Golden West College 14th and Fullerton College 15th.  The Gauchos finished just six points behind fourth place Pasadena City College.

Saddleback will compete again at the Orange Empire Conference Finals in two weeks at Central Park in Huntington Beach.
