Ydens is latest Gaucho to sign

The Saddleback track & field program was back in the news on Tuesday as hammer thrower Christian Ydens signed a letter of intent.  Ydens will continue his education and athletic career at Cal Poly Pomona.

Ydens had a sensational spring, finishing second in the state in the hammer throw at the California Community College Athletic Association State Finals last Saturday in Bakersfield.  Two weeks earlier, he captured first place at the Southern California Regional Finals in San Diego.

Ydens had the third longest throw in the state this spring with a toss of 54.69 meters at the SoCal Finals.  His throw at the SoCal Finals also ranked No. 9, nationally.

Ydens will continue his track & field career at Cal Poly Pomona, located in Pomona, California.  The Broncos compete at the NCAA DII level in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.  Cal Poly Pomona finished third at the CCAA Finals on May 5.

Ydens graduated from Santa Margarita Catholic High School in 2015.
