The Saddleback men's golf team opened the season by shooting 404 at Candlewood Country Club on Wednesday afternoon in Whittier. Sophomore Cole Griffo shot 73 to finish in a tie for second place in medalist play.
Saddleback opened the season against a crowded field at the Orange Empire Conference Tee-Off Classic on Wednesday. The Gauchos finished in the middle of the pack in a tie for seventh place, shooting +54 as a team. Saddleback finished third among teams from the Orange Empire Conference on Wednesday, 34 shots back of Northern California's Reedley College.
Griffo was one shot off the lead set by Cypress College's Ben Bernard, who shot 72 to capture the medalist trophy on the 6,177-yard, par-70 layout. Saddleback had two other golfers in the 70's with Chase Bosanko shooting 77 (T-17th) and Lawrence Young 78 (T-25th).
Saddleback will be back in action next Wednesday when they travel to Soboba Springs Country Club.
