Watkins is in his third season as a defensive line coach for the Gauchos.  Previous to Saddleback, Watkins coached at both Santa Ana College and Golden West College and has coached over 20 defensive linemen and linebackers that went on to play NCAA DI football.  

Watkins attended Marina High School in Huntington Beach where he competed in football, wrestling and track & field.  He then played at Golden West College where he earned a scholarship to the University of Missouri after making the All-Mission Conference Team and Co-Defensive-Player-of-the-Year Award.  Watkins started for two years at Missouri, earning All-Big Eight honors finishing with 107 tackles and 17 sacks.  He eventually earned a bachelor's degree from Missouri and then went on to earn a master's degree from Boston University.   

Watkins is a professor at Golden West College and is married with two children.
