Fall 2015 Teams Achieve High GPA's

The Saddleback College athletic department is pleased to announce that seven of the college’s 10 athletic teams which were competing during the Fall 2015 semester achieved a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or higher.

“Having seven of our 10 teams achieve a 3.0 cumulative team GPA during the fall semester – and 16 of our 19 teams during the 2015 calendar year – is truly remarkable and unprecedented in community college athletics,” Saddleback Athletic Director Tony Lipold said.  “As an athletic program, we have worked hard to create a culture of success both on and off the field and the commitment from the college, the staff, the coaches, and the student-athletes is the key to this accomplishment.  We are proud of our Gaucho Nation and we will continue to emphasize our academic success as well as our athletic success.”

Dr. Tod A. Burnett, president of Saddleback College, stated, “I am so proud of our student athletes and congratulate them on their stellar academic performance.  Each year our student athletes show remarkable results in the classroom, and this is due in no small part to our coaches’ dedication to student success in both academics and athletics. Thank you to our coaches, instructors, and athletic staff for their collective efforts in encouraging academic excellence.”

The women’s golf team posted the highest team GPA in the fall at 3.44, followed by women’s water polo (3.27), women’s cross country (3.25), and women’s soccer (3.22).  Men’s cross country (3.12), women’s basketball (3.08), and men’s basketball (3.01) also cleared the 3.00 mark.

Additionally, nine of Saddleback’s 10 fall athletic teams improved their team GPA’s from the previous year.
