The Saddleback College athletic department is pleased to announce that 147 of the college's 309 student-athletes have been named to the Athletic Honor Roll after grades were posted for the Spring 2017 semester, including 27 student-athletes with a perfect 4.00 grade point average.
The 147 student-athletes on the honor roll this past fall represent 48 percent of the student-athletes at Saddleback College this year. This is the second-highest percentage of student-athletes to ever qualify for the Athletic Honor Roll, trailing only the 50% level posted during the Spring 2016 semester (152 of 304).
"These numbers are extremely impressive. I think you'd be hard-pressed to find another California community college that was able to show that roughly one-half of their student-athletes were achieving a 3.0 GPA in the classroom," said newly-hired Saddleback College Dean of Kinesiology and Athletics, Dan Clauss. "Saddleback is serious about student-athlete success and making sure students do well academically."
In addition to the honor roll list, seven of the college's 10 spring semester athletic teams posted an overall team grade point average of 3.0 or higher and will be nominated for Orange Empire Conference and California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) scholar-team awards. The women's tennis team led the charge with a 3.59 team GPA, the second-highest GPA ever recorded by a Saddleback athletic team. The softball team added a 3.32 team GPA with men's tennis posting a 3.27 team GPA. Women's swimming and diving (3.21), men's swimming and diving (3.19), and baseball (3.11) followed with men's golf (3.09) rounding out the teams.
