Athletics Department Announces Fall 2017 Honor Roll

The Saddleback College athletic department is pleased to announce that 167 of the college's 308 student-athletes have been named to the Athletic Honor Roll after grades were posted for the Fall 2017 semester, including 26 student-athletes with a perfect 4.00 grade point average.

The 167 student-athletes on the honor roll this past fall represent over 54 percent of the student-athletes at Saddleback College this year.  This is a six percent increase over the Fall 2016 term and the 167 student-athletes is the largest number to ever be included on the Athletic Honor Roll.   In order to make the honor roll, student-athletes must have passed at least 12 units during the Fall 2017 semester with a 3.00 GPA or higher.

"The number of student-athletes making the Athletic Honor Roll and the percentage of student-athletes with a 3.0 GPA or higher continue to rise here at Saddleback," said Dean of Kinesiology and Athletic Director Dan Clauss.  "The staff in the Learning Resource Center, and especially those working with our Program Assisting Student-Athlete Success, have done a tremendous job in helping our student-athletes compete in the classroom.  The faculty at Saddleback have also taken on a new interest in helping this population succeed."

In addition to the honor roll list, six of the college's 10 fall semester athletic teams posted an overall team grade point average of 3.0 or higher and will be nominated for Orange Empire Conference and California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) scholar-team awards.

The women's golf team posted a 3.48 team GPA to top the list, marking the fifth consecutive season the golfers have been above a 3.00 GPA.  Women's cross country (3.33) eclipsed the 3.00 mark for the fourth consecutive season, while women's soccer (3.24), men's basketball (3.07), and women's water polo (3.05) have each reached this plateau for the third consecutive year.  Men's water polo (3.05) also qualified for scholar-team recognition.
