Athletics Department Announces Spring 2016 Honor Roll

The Saddleback College athletic department is pleased to announce that 151 of the college's 303 student-athletes have been named to the Athletic Honor Roll after grades were posted for the recent Spring 2016 semester, including 24 student-athletes with a perfect 4.00 grade point average.

The 151 student-athletes on the honor roll this spring represent 50 percent of the student-athletes at Saddleback College this year.  This is the highest percentage of student-athletes ever to make the Athletic Honor Roll.

"We take the success of our student-athletes seriously," said Saddleback College athletics director Tony Lipold.  "We love to be successful in the athletic arena – and we proved that this year with conference championships in football, men's basketball, and baseball – but we also understand the importance of taking care of business in the classroom.  We have a great program in place which gives our student-athletes the opportunity to achieve academic success by utilizing our athletic counselors and the tutors in our PASS Program.  Our coaches understand the importance of academic success and fully support this effort."

In addition to the honor roll list, seven of the college's 10 spring semester athletic teams posted an overall team grade point average of 3.0 or higher and will be nominated for Orange Empire Conference and California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) scholar-team awards.  The spring semester also saw the women's tennis team set a new school record with a 3.67 team GPA while the women's swimming and diving team (3.54) and the women's track and field team (3.42) were not far off that mark.  Additionally, the men's tennis team (3.24), men's golf team (3.12), men's track and field team (3.10), and men's swimming and diving team (3.00) each qualified to be nominated for conference scholar-team awards.
